I recently toured the Kemper Center for Home Gardening at the Missouri Botanical Gardens (actually its been a month or so but who is counting). They have two Varden Vertical Garden Walls that have been in place for 4 plus years at this point, with one planted in perennials and the other planted with garden greens and herbs. The ornamental vertical garden is planted seasonally with Spring cool season varieties, Summer heat loving annual varieties and finally for color, texture and cold hardiness in Fall and Winter. This years fall planting is stunning! Maybe the best work of living art we have seen! Take a tour for yourself if in Saint Louis this fall.

We have learned much from the Pro’s at MoBot and they continue to break new ground in experimenting with plant species to develop a better understanding of what can be accomplished vertically in our Varden Systems. Their staff is a wealth of knowledge for home gardeners and they are becoming experts in vertical gardening with the passing of each season. We cannot wait to see what Fall species over-winter in our northern climate and what the staff will plant next year to push our understanding forward. Many thanks to MOBot for being great collaborators and for their continued support of Vertical Gardening in all of its forms!
